Earn A Bike
Thank you for expressing an interest in the Earn-A-Bike (EAB) program. Our aim is to have as many safe bikers on the streets and as many bikes out of the landfill as possible. Taking part in EAB is just one way you can help us achieve these goals. Because of the great interest in this program we are forced to limit the number of time sheets that we can give out. We also would like to make sure those in dire need get a bike . Starting August 1st 2010, we will give out 10 bikes to those who are in dire need and bring in a letter of reference from a humanitarian agency.
What
Participants earn a bike by donating their time and energy to the community. Each participant may earn only one bike each year. The Earn-A-Bike program requires participants to volunteer at other organizations outside the co-op. EAB volunteers earn their hours sharing their energy with our community.
Bottom Line: You volunteer, and we'll hook you up with a fully rebuilt used bike
How
- You must pickup an Earn-a-Bike timesheet at the Co-op. We only give out 20 time sheets a month, starting on the first of the month.
- Volunteer 20 hours at any non-profit organization. If you need help finding an organization to volunteer with, check out the United Way website they offer many opportunities to help.
- Volunteer hours must be completed within 60 days of receiving your time sheet.
- It is the responsibility of each EAB client to notify the Bike Co-op EAB coordinator of any change in contact information. If we cannot contact you, you will be dropped from the program.
- We MUST verify your volunteer hours and check your photo ID before you can receive your bike.
- After your hours have been verified our volunteer mechanics will start to build you a bike based on the information you provide to us. It may take up to four weeks to build a bike from our supply of used bikes.
- The co-op will attempt to notify you two times to pick up your bike. If you do not respond you will be dropped from the program.
- When you come in you will test out your bike and we will complete a final safety inspection on the bike.
The Co-op will not accept Earn a Bike time sheets given out before Nov.1, 2009 starting January 1, 2010.
Referrals
The Co-op also has a referral program set up for individuals in special circumstances. If you work for social sevices, community service, or other similar programs, contact us about setting up your clients in the Earn A Bike Program.
